Besides cremation and simple burying, there will be the possibility to be freeze-dried. In this process, all that is left of the body is a fertile, organic powder, that will be taken up quickly by the earth. At this moment there are thousands of different urns and coffins but no appropriate form, that suits the concept and meets the legal requirements, has been created for this new process yet. I designed the Burial Cocoon for this new concept of freeze-drying. A Cocoon is custom made and is made of a potato starch material. Once buried, it will be taken up by the earth. The shape derives from the little seed of the forget-me-not, symbolic for a new beginning.
