Cocktails & Companions®
Final project Design Academy
The rather lazy attitude I found in the night life, really started to bother me. It was far from chic, not at all sexy, not titillating enough. Going out can be so much more than grabbing a drink and a quick bite and this really shows in my concept. Not only did I focus on the inciting ‘Cocktails’ with their suiting assortment of senses-stimulating ‘Companions’, I paid special attention to all the other elements as well: the design of the bar, the ‘seductive’ tables, a sensual atmosphere, a decoration with apples and roses. The house style, with a specific, romantic typography on its menu and the aprons for its staff. And the crockery of paper-thin china which does not only look very nice and attractive, thanks to its female shape, but also quickly takes over the temperature of the dishes, and therefore makes their consuming an even more sensual experience.
For over a year I studied the natural aphrodisiacs that give a spicy, titillating touch to the Companions. Pepper for example, makes the blood flow quicker. And royal jelly (honey) rejuvenates and stimulates body and mind thanks to its high quantity of vitamin B. Grapefruit has been popular since neolithic times. The fruit is the symbol of Dionysus (Bacchus for the Romans) God of the wine, fertility and creation. I processed them into pleasurable ‘Companions’ with names such as ‘ultimate little eggs’, ‘lobster spring roll’ and ‘coco capu pomodore.’ Even the matching ‘Cocktails’ were seductive: for their decoration for example, I used a white, transparent belly, which shamelessly showed its inner part – with a rather voluptuous result.
